In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, John F. Kennedy Drive has been closed to cars to allow people to walk and bicycle while social distancing. We evaluated options for JFK Drive to improve park access which was summarized in a final report approved by the Transportation Authority Board.

New improvements were completed along Divisadero which include longer crossing times for pedestrians, daylighting, pedestrian safety zones, and more. We provided $270,000 in Neighborhood Program funding to support the project.

To provide better visibility and improved safety for all road users, we contributed almost $1.5 million in funding from the half-cent sales tax for transportation, as well as other funding sources to upgrade new traffic signal infrastructure along Arguello Boulevard.

The Transportation Authority Board approved $250,000 in Neighborhood Program funding to support planning, outreach, and design of quick-build projects at Lake Merced. Quick-build designs could include protected bikeways, pedestrian refuge islands, narrowed traffic lanes, and more.

Our board voted to allocate $900,000 in half-cent sales tax funds to support traffic calming measures in Visitacion Valley and Portola, as part of SFMTA’s Vision Zero Proactive Traffic Calming program. Traffic calming measures that may be selected could include speed humps, signal changes, and raised crosswalks.

The Tenderloin made history by becoming the first neighborhood in San Francisco to implement area-wide speed reductions, from 25 to 20 mph. The project has also begun installng ‘no turn on red’ signs at 54 intersections in the neighborhood to support pedestrian safety.

We celebrated the completion of Quick-Build projects in the Bayview with the community. Improvements include protected bike lanes, murals, and more as prioritized by the community in the Bayview Community-Based Transportation Plan.
