The SFMTA and SF Public Works delivered traffic calming improvements to enhance safety for people walking, biking, and driving in the Mission and Bernal Heights neighborhoods in District 9. We supported the project with $165,000 from the Neighborhood Program at the request of Transportation Authority Board Member Hilary Ronen (District 9).

Our board approved over $10 million in San Francisco’s voter-approved half-cent sales tax for transportation to support the SFMTA’s SF Paratransit program. SF Paratransit is a service of SFMTA that provides van and taxi services to people with disabilities who are unable to use public transit independently.

The Transportation Authority is developing the District 1 Multimodal Transportation Study at the request of District 1 Transportation Authority Board Member Connie Chan to explore ways to improve walking, biking, and transit trips, as well as reduce vehicle trips and greenhouse gas emissions in the neighborhood.

Bayview-Hunter’s Point is nestled along the southeastern waterfront of San Francisco and is home to many historical buildings, recreation areas, and local businesses. The Transportation Authority continues to invest in transportation improvements to serve this culturally rich and historically significant community.

New Transportation Authority-funded electric vehicle fast chargers open for use in the Inner Richmond and Outer Richmond. The Transportation Authority supported the expansion of this charging infrastructure with $200,000 in funding from the Transportation Fund for Clean Air.

SF Public Works installed new street lights along Chinatown’s Joice Alley in August 2023, as part of the Joice Alley Lighting Improvement Project. The Transportation Authority provided $500,000 in Prop AA Vehicle Registration Fee to support the design and construction of the project.

The Transportation Authority, in collaboration with the SFUSD, is developing the Mission Bay School Access Plan, which will examine ways to improve connectivity to the city’s transportation network for the new elementary school being built.

The Upper Market Safety Project installed a variety of sidewalk and roadway improvements in the vibrant neighborhood along Market Street from Octavia Boulevard to Castro Street, a one-mile stretch of the city’s Vision Zero High Injury Network.

The project installed safety improvements along 5th Street between Market and Townsend Streets in the South of Market neighborhood. The Transportation Authority provided over $378,000 in funding to support the project.

The Transportation Authority Board re-elected District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman as Chair and District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar as Vice-Chair for 2024. Our agency also released the 2023 Annual Report that provides highlights of what we planned, funded, and delivered last year.
