Transit Month rally at City Hall 2026

On September 1, we joined San Francisco Transit Riders, Mayor Daniel Lurie, Transportation Authority Chair Myrna Melgar (District 7) and Board members Mandelman, Sauter, Chen and Wong, SFMTA and Caltrain officials, and advocates throughout the city to celebrate the kick off of Transit Month at San Francisco City Hall.

Transit Month is held every September across the Bay Area to celebrate the importance of public transportation in our communities, and includes transit-themed community events and ridership contests to encourage people to use public transit. For the past 10 years, San Francisco Transit Riders, in partnership with Seamless Bay Area, have hosted and led Transit Month, expanding its growth in the Bay Area and beyond.

Mayor Lurie highlighted Muni’s growing ridership and customer satisfaction ratings, while Chair Melgar emphasized public transportation's critical role in connecting San Francisco and the broader Bay Area, and thanked the transit operators for keeping our transit systems strong during this pivotal time. Multiple speakers emphasized the importance of stabilizing transit finances.

Transit Month featured transit-themed activities, including the  Transit Month Ride Contest where riders tracked rides to earn badges and win prizes. Rider First Awards will take place on October 9. Learn more on the Transit Month website.
