During the July 14 Transportation Authority Board meeting, our board approved Transportation Fund for Clean Air Program funds to support emissions reduction projects across San Francisco. The Board gave final approval at the July 28 meeting.
The Transportation Fund for Clean Air is supported by a $4 fee on vehicle registrations across the nine Bay Area counties and is intended to support bicycle, pedestrian, and other transportation projects that help clean the air by reducing motor vehicle emissions. The Transportation Authority is the designated Transportation Fund for Clean Air Administering Agency for San Francisco.
Some programs recently funded by the Transportation Fund for Clean Air include:
Bayview Community Shuttle Vans ($168,900)
The SFMTA will replace three gasoline shuttle vans at the end of their service life with zero-emission electric Ford vans for the Bayview Community Shuttle. The shuttle service picks people up via on-demand shuttle services in Bayview-Hunters Point and connects them to transit and job centers. Learn more about requesting a ride here.
Emergency Ride Home ($74,499)
Taking transit, biking, or carpooling to work can be smooth until a child gets sick or a shift runs late. The San Francisco Department of the Environment’s Emergency Ride Home program funds a taxi ride home on a reimbursement basis in the event of personal emergency for those commuting to work in San Francisco by foot, bike, transit, carpool, or shared mobility.
This funding supports 12 months of the program, including outreach and engagement in multiple languages.
Bicycle Parking Corrals at Daylit Intersections ($203,926)
State law now requires keeping the space approaching a crosswalk clear of parked cars, so people walking and people driving can see each other. Bike corrals support newly open and visible curbs with a dual purpose to also provide bicycle and scooter storage.
The SFMTA will use funds to install about 75 corrals with four to eight bike parking spaces each, adding at least 370 bicycle parking spaces at daylit intersections throughout the city. SFMTA will prioritize installing corrals at daylit intersections located on the High Injury Network, on the bikeway network, on commercial corridors/metered blocks, and in Equity Priority Communities. Short-Term Bicycle Parking ($349,563)
SFMTA will use TFCA funds to purchase and install about 316 bicycle parking racks throughout the city, providing an additional 632 parking spaces to lock a bike or scooter at the end of a trip. Learn more about SFMTA’s bike parking program.
