The Transportation Authority is conducting its second round of community outreach for the Brotherhood Way Safety and Circulation Plan, which will help improve safety, circulation, and connectivity for people walking, driving, and biking through the Brotherhood Way and Alemany Boulevard corridors.
Prior input from community members identified the following goals and objectives for improving travel in the vicinity of Brotherhood Way:
- Prioritize safety – Make streets safer for walking, biking, transit, and driving
- Improve connectivity – Make it easier to reach parks, transit, and businesses, especially without a car to better balance local needs with drivers passing through.
- Support community amenities and green spaces – Improve access to local amenities and green areas.
- Prepare for the future – Foster climate resilience and emissions reduction.
- Ensure accountability – Ensure community voices shape real, achievable improvements.
Three main challenges emerged from outreach, including:
- Brotherhood Way is difficult to cross while walking or biking
- The Alemany and St. Charles intersection feels dangerous and speeding along Alemany is common
- The intersection of Brotherhood, Alemany, and Sagamore is one of the most challenging intersections in the neighborhood and needs a major redesign
We used the information gathered during outreach to develop several potential solutions to address transportation challenges in the neighborhood. Each potential solution has different benefits and tradeoffs.
On Tuesday, July 15, the Brotherhood Way Safety and Circulation Plan planning team hosted a town hall meeting for about 40 people at the I.T. Bookman Community Center to share three potential solutions with community members:
- Sketch Alternative A: Alemany Calming and Ped Bridge
- Sketch Alternative B: Alemany and Brotherhood Calming
- Sketch Alternative C: Brotherhood Way Relocation

Share your feedback for the Brotherhood Way Safety and Circulation Plan through a survey
We want your feedback to:
- Understand what improvements are most important to you
- Refine up to two alternative visions for transportation in the neighborhood, which we will share for additional feedback later this year
