On April 14, we launched our second phase of outreach for the San Francisco Transportation Plan 2050, or SFTP+. This phase shares initial findings from the financially constrained long-range transportation Investment Plan and a proposed Vision Plan, which includes investments enabled by any new revenues generated in the future.

Following our first round of outreach in 2025, the Transportation Authority has been updating the Investment Plan and Vision Plan to align SFTP+ with numerous ongoing efforts, taking the recently adopted regional Plan Bay Area, the federal outlook, and public feedback into consideration.

Reflecting public input, the Investment Plan prioritizes transit operations and state of good repair for transit and roadways, among other citywide and neighborhood investments. Some funding priorities from past plans were reduced or shifted to the Vision Plan, due to lower revenues during the Plan period, per Plan Bay Area assumptions, which the SFTP 2050+ must reflect.

We Want to Hear From You!

Take our online survey and share your top priorities for the Vision Plan by May 22.

Community Outreach

We have reached out to over 200 community-based organizations and hosted two virtual Town Halls during each phase of outreach. During the first phase of outreach, San Francisco residents shared their priorities for the city’s transportation funds over the next 30 years. We heard:

  • Strong support to maintain frequent, reliable, safe, and clean transit at current service levels, as well as calls to expand the transit system
  • Strong support for street safety and infrastructure improvements
  • Concern that driving in the city was becoming more difficult

From initial findings and community input, we are now focusing on the draft Vision Plan, which includes:

  • Restoring funding to projects and programs at levels anticipated in SFTP 2050
  • Expanding Muni transit service based on where we see demand
  • Expanding transit service more comprehensively, with increased Owl service, and service to Equity Priority Communities
  • Improving overall reliability and making transit more convenient
  • Implementing priority traffic calming and multimodal safety projects
  • Fully funding community-based planning efforts
  • Planning and designing transformative freeway and major street projects to improve connectivity

Westside Network Study

During the second phase of outreach, we are also presenting the Westside Network Study, in coordination with SFTP+, which addresses transportation challenges in San Francisco’s western neighborhoods. The study proposes ways to improve transportation options on the Westside over the next 10 to 15 years to address specific needs for this part of the city and to advance our SFTP+ goals, including supporting planned growth. These include improving travel choices and transit connections to other parts of the city and the South Bay, to name a few.

Join us at our upcoming pop-up events in San Francisco’s western neighborhoods to share your thoughts and priorities on project ideas in the Westside Network. There will be pop-up events in Districts 1, 4, and 7 starting in May.

See the staff presentation from our April 14 Board meeting on the Westside Network Study improvement strategies.
