Introduction

The SFMTA and Transportation Authority identified the need for pedestrian crossing improvements along Turk Boulevard between Masonic Avenue and Divisadero Street, in the Anza Vista neighborhood, through the District 2 Safety Study. During outreach for that study, stakeholders raised concerns about high vehicle speeds and pedestrian safety.

With support from the District 2 Supervisor's office, the project will implement safety recommendations and address community members' concerns by installing new concrete median islands to replace the current painted islands at Nido Street and Lyon Street, and design and construct a rectangular rapid flashing beacon at one intersection. The project includes planning and site assessments to determine the optimal location of the rectangular rapid flashing beacon, and an accessibility evaluation of each candidate intersection (Nido and Turk, Central and Turk, and Lyon and Turk).
