During the July 14 Transportation Authority Board meeting, board members approved over $2.2 million in Prop L transportation sales tax funds to San Francisco Public Works to support three projects across San Francisco. The Transportation Authority Board gave final approval at the July 28 meeting.
New curb ramps for five districts ($1.2 million)
The Transportation Authority Board approved $1.2 million in Prop L sales tax funds toward a total cost of $1.3 million to construct or reconstruct 34 curb ramps in five districts and related sidewalk, curb, gutter, relocated catch basins, and roadway work at six intersections.
The curb ramp locations are primarily identified through San Francisco Public Works inspections and resident requests. The curb ramps are located within Districts 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10 at the following locations:
• 45th Avenue and Ortega Street
• Judah Street and La Playa Street
• Santa Clara Avenue and Terrace Drive
• Ogden Avenue and Nevada Street
• Eddy Street and Hyde Street
• Carolina Street and Coral Road
This curb ramp construction project helps the City to meet its obligations to provide curb ramps that are readily and easily usable by people with disabilities. Curb ramps are expected to be open for use by September 2027.
Sidewalk and curb repair at about 200 locations ($768,000)
San Francisco Public Works is responsible for repairing damaged sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, and angular returns, which are specific types of curbs and sidewalks, often with a curved design at intersections or driveways.
The Transportation Authority Board approved $768,000 in Prop L sales tax funds toward the $1 million cost to make these repairs at approximately 200 locations throughout the city.
The locations of public sidewalk and curb repairs are determined by a combination of SFPW inspections, public complaints, and trip-and-fall reports, as well as project readiness, community support, and time sensitive urgency. Members of the public may request sidewalk repairs by calling 311. Completion of these repairs is expected by June 2027.
Street repair and cleaning equipment ($300,000)
To replace equipment that has exceeded its useful life, the Transportation Authority Board has approved $300,000 from the Prop L Street Resurfacing, Rehabilitation, and Maintenance Program funds to purchase one piece of street repair and cleaning equipment. The program funds replacement of street repair and cleaning equipment such as asphalt pavers, street sweepers, front-end loaders, and other equipment.
This new piece of equipment, one front-end loader, will improve safety at the worksite and the efficiency of street repair work. It is also California Air Resources Board compliant and will meet current emissions standards. The new front-end loader is expected to be in service by June 2027.
