Turk Boulevard is getting pedestrian safety upgrades

The Transportation Authority Board approved $200,000 in Neighborhood Program funds to design and construct pedestrian safety improvements on Turk Boulevard between Nido and Lyon streets in District 2.

The project will replace painted median islands with new concrete median islands and install a flashing beacon at one of the intersections along the segment. Before construction, SFMTA will conduct site assessments at Nido/Turk, Central/Turk, and Lyon/Turk to determine the best location for the beacon and to evaluate accessibility at each candidate intersection.

The improvements build on recommendations from the District 2 Safety Study, which the Transportation Authority and SFMTA completed earlier in 2026. During outreach for the study, residents identified Turk Boulevard as a location with high vehicle speeds, and the final report called for targeted upgrades to slow drivers and protect people walking.

SFMTA expects the project to be complete by September 2027.
