In March, Transportation Authority Chair Myrna Melgar, Vice Chair Danny Sauter and Transportation Authority staff joined the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce on its annual CityTrip to advocate for San Francisco’s priorities in Washington, D.C.
The delegation met with several congressional representatives, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff to advocate on a range of critical issues impacting San Francisco that focus on transportation funding, housing and healthcare affordability, and permitting reform.
Chair Melgar, Vice Chair Sauter, and Transportation Authority staff spoke to various local transportation priorities:
- Reauthorization of the federal transportation bill to maintain current funding levels for public transportation and safe streets
- Design funds for the Seawall program, as well as maintaining Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grants Program to support The Portal rail extension to downtown.
- Stronger performance standards and increased data reporting for autonomous vehicles, as well as maintaining current state and federal AV regulatory roles
This year, the San Francisco and Los Angeles Chambers of Commerce partnered on program events and San Francisco delegates met with city officials from Washington, D.C. as well.
