This fall, SFMTA welcomed 30 new 32-foot buses and 45 new paratransit vehicles into its fleet.

The 32-foot motor coach is Muni’s smallest vehicle. These buses are essential for serving hard-to-reach neighborhoods where larger vehicles cannot climb hills or navigate tight turns. The newly replaced buses will improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs for a fleet serving routes such as the 35 Eureka, 36 Teresita, 37 Corbett, 39 Coit, and 56 Rutland. The Transportation Authority provided $16.2 million in transportation sales tax funds to support the purchase of the new buses.

Additionally, SFMTA has recently replaced 45 paratransit vehicles that were at the end of their useful lives. The new vans are on the streets, providing door-to-door service for seniors and people with disabilities who are unable to use Muni’s regular fixed route bus and rail service. One vehicle is an electric van, allowing Muni to evaluate its performance. The Transportation Authority provided $4.1 million in transportation sales tax funds to support the recent procurement of these new paratransit vehicles.
