At the February 24 Transportation Authority Board meeting, our board approved $582,500 in half-cent sales tax funds to SFMTA through our Prop L Neighborhood Program for traffic calming and street safety enhancements throughout District 5. These improvements are supported by District 5 Transportation Authority Board Member Bilal Mahmood and are intended to discourage speeding and improve street safety equitably across the district.
The proposed improvements include painted safety zones, speed humps, and raised crosswalks. Both the investments and their potential locations were informed by a District 5–sponsored survey that received more than 300 responses. The project will construct 17 painted safety zones, seven speed humps, and five raised crosswalks across the district.
This investment was funded through the Transportation Authority’s Neighborhood Program, which strengthens project pipelines and accelerates delivery of community-supported, neighborhood-scale improvements.
Construction is expected to be complete by December 2027.
