A Presidio GO battery electric bus is parked in front of the Presidio Transit Center.

The Presidio GO shuttle network provides free, year-round transportation with routes serving the Presidio National Park and connections to downtown BART/Muni stations. In 2020, the Transportation Authority provided $250,000 in Transportation Fund for Clean Air funds to help the Presidio Trust replace one of its Presidio GO gas shuttles with a 100% battery electric shuttle.

The Transportation Authority-funded electric shuttle began operating on the Presidio GO South Hills Route in 2023, making stops all throughout the park on weekdays and weekends. That initial investment catalyzed a broader fleet modernization over the years: following that first electric bus, the Presidio Trust has systematically replaced its aging gas buses with battery-electric shuttles. Five additional buses arrived in April 2026, making the fleet 60% electric.

Beyond eliminating emissions and reducing the fleet's carbon footprint, the electric shuttle features a low-floor design with wider aisles — both key improvements for accessibility that make boarding easier for people with limited mobility, users in wheelchairs, and families with young children. Passengers also enjoy a quieter, more comfortable ride with lower maintenance costs. These improvements have driven meaningful growth, with the Presidio Trust recording a 12% ridership increase and over 300,000 rides taken last year.

This project marked an important milestone in electrifying the entire Presidio GO fleet, aligning with the Presidio Trust's goals of becoming a net zero carbon park while simultaneously supporting San Francisco's broader transportation and climate objectives. According to the City's recently updated Climate Action Plan, transportation emissions account for 45% of the city's total greenhouse gas emissions, making transit electrification a critical strategy for achieving the city's and state's climate protection goals.
