People standing in a line with arms out to show the mural painted on a protected bike lane

Transportation Authority Board Member Aaron Peskin (District 3) joined the SFMTA, Downtown SF Partnership, and community leaders to celebrate completion of the first protected bike lane in the Financial District.

This Vision Zero quick-build project constructed a two-way protected bike lane along Battery Street, added pedestrian safety improvements on both Battery and Sansome streets, and some loading changes on Battery Street. The project also features a mural at the Battery Bridge by San Francisco based painter Talavera-Ballón

The new bike lanes from Market Street to Vallejo Street connect to a prior bike lane project that was completed in 2019. The Battery and Vallejo bike lanes were funded by $800,000 in TNC Tax and Neighborhood Program funds, at the request of Transportation Authority Board Member Peskin. Together the two projects form a continuous network for cyclists between Market Street and the Embarcadero.
