District 5 Transportation Authority Board Member Bilal Mahmood with community leaders and advocates, celebrating the kickoff of daylighting efforts

On July 28, we joined District 5 Transportation Authority Board Member Bilal Mahmood, SFMTA, WalkSF, and community leaders to celebrate the start of daylighting efforts in District 5.

The Transportation Authority is proud to provide $117,000 in Prop L sales tax Neighborhood Program funds to complete all locations in District 5 at Board Member Mahmood’s request. We also provided $1.1 million in funding from transportation sales tax funds and TNC tax funds to support daylighting efforts throughout San Francisco.

“Daylighting” curbs near intersections is required by state law that disallows parking within 20 feet of an intersection. This enables better visibility between drivers and pedestrians in crosswalks.

SFMTA aims to daylight every curb in the city by 2026.
