On September 4, we joined San Francisco Transit Riders, Seamless Bay Area, Mayor Daniel Lurie, Transportation Authority Chair Myrna Melgar (District 7), Transportation Authority Board Members Chan (District 1) and Mahmood (District 5), city officials, transit leaders, and organizations across the city to celebrate the kick off of Transit Month.
Transit Month celebrates the Bay Area’s transit agencies, operators and riders, and reminds our San Francisco and Bay Area community how essential transit is to economic recovery, a healthy environment, and ensuring residents’ access to opportunities. Transit helps reduce traffic congestion, lowers greenhouse gas emissions, and makes the Bay Area a better place to live.
During their remarks, Mayor Lurie stated that Muni and transit are at the heart of San Francisco’s recovery as ridership is increasing, and Chair Melgar thanked transit workers while underscoring that a robust transit system is beneficial to every San Francisco resident and that the future of the city depends on a functioning and strong transit system.
There’s still time to join in transit-themed activities. Check out the full calendar of events on the Transit Month website.
Riders can still participate in the Transit Month Ride Contest. Each ride a person logs will enter them into a raffle for transit-themed prizes and earn them badges in the contest app. Join the Ride Contest by registering at RideContest.com.
