This past month, we joined District 10 Transportation Authority Board Member and Supervisor Shamann Walton, SF Public Works, and community members to celebrate the completion of the Minnesota Streetscape Project in the Dogpatch neighborhood. This area serves as an important cultural and social hub in the heart of the Dogpatch community, as well as providing access to multiple industrial businesses.
Within the Minnesota Streetscape project, pedestrian safety improvements include the construction of a new bulb-out and curb ramps on the eastern side of the Minnesota and 25th Street intersection.
The project provides street repair, a new sidewalk, streetscape upgrades, and improves pedestrian safety in the neighborhood. The new bulb-out and curb ramps will:
- Extend the Minnesota Grove along Minnesota Street, between 23rd and 25th streets; and along 23rd Street, from Minnesota to Tennessee streets
- Help make crossing distances shorter, safer, and more accessible at this busy intersection
- Include a new ADA-compliant ramp on the east side of Minnesota Street starting at 25th Street
These improvements were recommended by the Central Waterfront/Dogpatch Public Realm Plan, and the project was developed as part of a planning effort from summer 2015 through spring 2017. The Dogpatch and Northwest Potrero Hill Green Benefit District and the Dogpatch Neighborhood Association were also instrumental during the design phase of the larger project.
The Transportation Authority contributed $400,000 in funding from District 10 Neighborhood Program funds for the construction phase of the new bulb-out and curb ramps as part of the $2.3 million Minnesota Streetscape Project.
