Transportation Modeler, Technology, Data, and Analysis Division

Summary

The Transportation Modeler Series in the Technology, Data & Analysis Division includes three levels of professional Transportation Modelers who prepare complex travel demand forecasting model applications for planning studies; maintain the SFCTA’s SF-CHAMP state-of-the-art travel demand model, manage spatial and other data, and develop data visualizations. The Transportation Modeler assists with larger or has full responsibility for smaller projects.

Reports to: Principal Transportation Modeler or Deputy Director for Technology, Data & Analysis
Exemption Status: Full-time, Exempt

The Transportation Modeler:

  • Enhances and maintains Transportation Authority’s activity-based travel demand forecast model and mesoscopic traffic assignment model, including estimation and calibration of model components, developing and applying advanced statistical methods, scripting to automate model system data pipelines, and managing networks, land use, and other input and output data.

  • Works closely with planners and other transportation professionals within the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and at partner local, regional, and state agencies on a wide range of projects. This includes applying the Transportation Authority’s activity-based travel demand forecast model and mesoscopic traffic assignment model to support development of the Transportation Authority’s efforts such as the San Francisco Transportation Plan, as well as to support other studies 

  • Supports research on key transportation issues including emerging mobility technologies and services such as autonomous vehicles, travel behavior choices and demand management, and transportation network modeling.

  • Maintains Transportation Authority’s data warehouse, including developing protocols for data acquisition and management, collecting and acquiring data, coordinating with other agencies to facilitate data exchanges, incorporating data, analyzing data using advanced statistical methods

  • Maintains, develops and applies Transportation Authority’s web-based open-source data visualization platform 

  • Provides oversight of all project management activities for smaller projects, such as developing and tracking project budgets, selecting and managing consultants and contracts, facilitating technical and project meetings, and reviewing progress and deliverables

Supervisory Responsibilities

May supervise interns and external consultants.

Annual Compensation Range: $89,332 – $123,273

Salary is effectively higher since the Transportation Authority offers an employer contribution to a retirement plan in lieu of Social Security.

In addition, the Transportation Authority offers a generous cafeteria-style benefits package, which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Retirement: Up to 10.88% employer contribution
  • Insurance: Health, dental, life, and long-term disability. Medical and dependent care pre-tax reimbursement accounts.
  • Deferred Compensation (Section 457)
  • Vacation: Three (3) weeks of vacation per year during the first 5 years of service
  • Holidays: 12 holidays per year, plus 3 personal holidays
  • Commuter Benefits: Up to $160 per month in Commuter Checks or a $20 per month bike benefit
