Principal Engineer, Capital Projects Division

We’re looking for applicants with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation project and program management and a State of California professional engineering license are required. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
Reports to: Assistant Deputy Director for Capital Projects
Exemption Status: Full-time Exempt
You'll manage multiple projects, perform technical analysis, with activities ranging from the environmental phase through design and construction of the project and interact with a variety of public agency staff, advocates and private stakeholders.
Examples of projects you may work on:
101/280 Express Lanes: We are currently developing project alternatives for use in the Environmental Documents and Equity Study of the corridor. You may lead coordination with permitting agencies, supervise technical consultants and participate in public outreach events.
Connect SF, Streets & Freeway Study: We are working with partner agencies to develop a long-range vision for the arterial streets and state highway networks within San Francisco. You may help identify transportation needs, develop project concepts and evaluate implementation strategies for major freeway and interchange projects.
Supervises Associate Engineer. May supervise external consultant teams.
Annual Compensation Range: $136,110 – $187,833
Salary is effectively higher since the Transportation Authority offers an employer contribution to a retirement plan in lieu of Social Security.
In addition, the Transportation Authority offers a generous cafeteria-style benefits package, which includes, but is not limited to:
Retirement: up to 10.22% employer contribution
Insurance: Health, dental, life, and long-term disability. Medical and dependent care pre-tax reimbursement accounts.
Deferred Compensation (Section 457)
Vacation: Three (3) weeks of vacation per year during the first 5 years of service
Holidays: 12 holidays per year, plus 3 personal holidays
Commuter Benefits: Up to $160 per month in Commuter Checks or a $20 per month bike benefit
