The San Francisco County Transportation Authority Board today re-elected District 8 Supervisor Rafael Mandelman as its Chair and re-elected District 3 Supervisor Aaron Peskin as its Vice-Chair for 2022. The Transportation Authority plans, funds, and delivers local and regional projects to improve travel choices for residents, commuters, and visitors throughout San Francisco.

This is the second consecutive year Chair Mandelman has held the role.

Chair Mandelman thanked his fellow Board members for their support and spoke of his goals for the year.

“I look forward to another productive year advancing the critical street safety, transit reliability, and sustainable transportation improvements that San Franciscans deserve,” Chair Mandelman said. “All of this will require significant investment, and among my top priorities will be the renewal of our local transportation sales tax and setting San Francisco up to take full advantage of new federal and state infrastructure funds.”

The Transportation Authority will pursue important initiatives this year, including completing the San Francisco Transportation Plan (the citywide, long-range investment and policy blueprint for the city’s transportation system), seeking voter approval of a new expenditure plan for the city’s half-cent transportation sales tax, and advancing several neighborhood planning efforts that improve safety and access including through the Octavia Boulevard/Central Freeway Access Study and Ocean Avenue Mobility Action Plan.

The Transportation Authority this year expects to complete its Southgate Road Realignment project atop Yerba Buena Island and anticipates the opening of several sales tax-funded capital projects, including the Central Subway, Van Ness Improvement Project, and Presidio Tunnel Tops.

The Transportation Authority Board consists of the 11 members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, who elect a chair and vice-chair each January and act as Transportation Authority Board Members.
