(Open until an adequate pool of qualified candidates is assembled) Description: Transportation Planner - Modeling / GIS - Technology Services Division The Transportation Planner Series - Modeling/GIS includes three levels of professional Transportation Planners who prepare complex travel demand forecasting model applications for planning studies; maintain the model; and manage the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database. The Transportation Planner position is the entry level position in this series. The Authority maintains the "SF-CHAMP" activity-based travel forecasting model for San Francisco. This model is nationally recognized as one of the leading tour-based models in active use for transportation planning studies. The Transportation Planner's responsibilities include maintaining the application and providing general modeling and GIS assistance to other Authority Divisions, external agencies and the public. Requirements:Completion of a graduate degree in an appropriate discipline such as transportation planning, civil engineering, information systems, computer science, or related field, and one (1) year of experience in transportation planning, travel demand forecasting or GIS analyses for transportation planning purposes; Knowledge of standard transportation planning principles, techniques and methods; travel demand models and their applications in planning studies; quantitative and computational analysis principles and methods; computer programming in scripting, preferably C++ and Java languages; Citilabs TP+ travel forecasting software package capabilities are desirable.
