Supporting neighborhood transportation planning is just one of the goals that emerged from the Countywide Transportation Plan. As part of that effort, the Authority supports community-based transportation improvements through a neighborhood transportation planning program. This program aims both to address community concerns on transportation conditions in their neighborhood and to engage community leadership in the transportation planning process. Throughout the study process the Authority coordinates closely with residents, businesses, community groups, and agency staff to identify needs and solutions, and to coordinate with other projects.
Working with community groups and agency partners such as the Municipal Transportation Agency, the
Department of Public Works, the Department of Public Health and other City agencies as appropriate, neighborhood transportation plans have already been developed in the Tenderloin/Little Saigon (completed February 2007), in the Outer Mission (completed March 2007), and in Bernal Heights (expected May 2007). In addition, we look forward to launching new studies with interested communities. The Columbus Avenue Neighborhood Transportation Plan is just starting up. On the horizon is the Bayview Neighborhood Transportation Plan, described below. Visit us again soon for more information on these studies as they unfold.
Bayview Neighborhood Transportation Plan
The purpose of this study is to develop a community-based
neighborhood transportation plan
for the Bayview/Hunters Point community. The proposed study will identify the
community's highest priority transportation needs, including pedestrian safety,
traffic calming and transit connectivity. This effort will build on past and
current investments in the neighborhood, and result in a prioritized list of transportation
solutions that respond to key transportation needs and can be realistically
implemented in three to five years. The schedule has not yet been finalized for the Bayview neighborhood transportation study, which would start later this year.
