This month, the Transportation Authority Board gave final approval of over $7 million in funding for transit reliability, paving, and safety improvements along Mission Street and Geneva Avenue.

Mission Street and Geneva Avenue are both on the Vision Zero High Injury Network and within an Equity Priority Community with a high concentration of low-income residents and people of color. Learn more about the area with our dynamic map of SF’s Equity Priority Communities.

Two projects led by SF Public Works and SFMTA will work jointly to improve the neighborhood. SF Public Works’ Mission and Geneva Pavement Reconstruction will renovate 55 blocks along Geneva Avenue from Mission Street to Prague Street, and along Mission Street from the I-280 overpass to Geneva Avenue. Key improvements include:

  • Repavement and pavement renovations
  • New sidewalk construction
  • Curb ramp construction and retrofit

SFMTA’s Mission/Geneva Safety Project will extend along Mission Street from Trumbull Street to Geneva Avenue and along Geneva Avenue from Mission Street to Prague Street. This project will install safety improvements such as:

  • New traffic signals and signal timing improvements
  • Corner bulb-outs, transit bulbs, and a transit island
  • Raised crosswalks
  • Bikeway improvements
  • And more

These projects will also coordinate with a SF Public Utilities Commission sewer replacement project for a comprehensive street improvement effort that enhances safety and accessibility for residents and visitors.

The Transportation Authority is supporting SF Public Works and SFMTA’s projects with over $7 million in half-cent sales tax for transportation and Prop AA vehicle registration fee funds.

Construction for both projects is set to begin in summer 2022 and continue through 2025.
