Introduction

This project will implement recommendations from the Visitacion Valley and Portola Community Based Transportation Plan. Specific improvements may include speed humps/cushions, lighting, crosswalk flashing beacons, new and/or raised crosswalks, pedestrian bulbouts, new bikeways, and Muni stop improvements. This project will focus specifically on improvements in Visitacion Valley.

The Visitacion Valley and Portola Community Based Transportation Plan is a planning and engagement effort led by the SFMTA with District 10 Supervisor Walton's office and strong local stakeholder partnerships. The project includes Visitacion Valley and portions of the Portola District in southeastern San Francisco, adjacent to the Bayview to the east, Highway 280 to the north, John McLaren Park to the west, and Daly City to the south.

Outreach for the Visitacion Valley and Portola Community Based Transportation Plan began in Fall 2021 and continued through January 2023, with three phases that identified challenges, needs, problem locations, and location-specific solutions. The final phase of outreach concluded in January 2023 and resulted in a Draft Plan. The Final Report went to the SFMTA Board of Directors for adoption in March 2023.

The Transportation Authority’s Neighborhood Program is intended to strengthen project pipelines and advance the delivery of community-supported neighborhood-scale projects.
